Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Ascended Heroes

Release date: January 30, 2026
Series: Pokémon Trading Card Game — Mega Evolution (Expansion: Ascended Heroes )
Thematic focus: The beginning of the Mega Evolution era, a focus on heroes from the Scarlet & Violet era, and new, impactful rarities

Mega Evolution—Ascended Heroes is an expansion for the Pokémon TCG that marks the “dawn” of Mega Evolution in cards, while also celebrating iconic characters and Pokémon from the current Scarlet & Violet era. Official announcements list it as an expansion with over 290 cards , suggesting a large amount of content for both players and collectors.

In addition to the "hype" effect of the return of the Mega theme, the diversity of products (ETBs, collections, and special boxes), which come in multiple waves after the initial release, is also key.

Important features of the extension

  • Official release date: January 30, 2026
  • Set size:Over 290 ” cards (officially stated in several posts)
  • Thematic focus on Mega Evolution and Scarlet & Violet era stars
  • An expanded set of collectible “highlight” cards (officially highlighted as a significant part of the set)

Products and release waves

It's important to note that Ascended Heroes products are released gradually (not all on the same day). Below are the dates that are publicly listed in official announcements and/or product galleries.

  • Base expansion (release date): January 30, 2026
  • Elite Trainer Box: available from February 20, 2026
  • First Partners Deluxe Pin Collection: available from March 20, 2026
  • Mega Meganium ex / Mega Emboar ex / Mega Feraligatr ex Boxes: available from April 24, 2026

A note about ETB content: the official “product showcase” states that the Ascended Heroes Elite Trainer Box contains nine booster packs from the expansion and a full-art promo card featuring N's Zekrom .

What does this mean for players and collectors?

For players, such a “multi-wave” outcome is often practical: it is easier to plan purchases and gradually upgrade stacks, while the metagame (local environments, league, tournaments) does not “shuffle” overnight. For collectors, the biggest advantage is that larger collections (ETB, pin collections, ex boxes) are time-spaced, making it easier to hunt for specific promo cards and add-ons.

If you're looking for an expansion to play, it's best to keep an eye on local TCG stores and official events (leagues, tournaments, casual gatherings), where expansions are often opened and tested the fastest. If you're looking for a collection, ETBs and special collections are often the best way to get a mix of sealed expansions, promo cards, and boosters.
